History of the Samot:

Samot is a small village located south of Pir Panjal Ranges in the Ans valley of Budhal-Kandi area, in Rajouri District, Jammu & Kashmir. The rugged and hostile mountainous terrain has heights ranging from 4800ft to 14000ft. The area, although remote, is very beautiful and serene . The population is a mix of Kashmiris, Gujjars, Bakarwals, and Hindus

This area faced the wrath of militancy during peak militancy days. However, with sustained active operations by the Indian Army, especially 60 Rashtriya Rifles (NAGA), the militancy has been uprooted, and the area has become peaceful.

In response to the request by the people of Nagaland, for another Naga battalion, the government decided to raise a Naga RR battalion. 60th Battalion It was raised on 31 March 2004, with the primary affiliation of the KUMAON and NAGA Regiment

Colonel Ravi Dimri (later Brigadier) of 3 KUMAON RIFLES had the honor and privilege to be the first Commanding Officer of this Battalion. He successfully established the Battalion in its present area of operations at Samote. The Battalion has actively carried out many anti-terrorist operations and ensured peace in the area by neutralizing many foreign and local terrorists and bursting hideouts with large recoveries of arms and ammunition.
